Wendel Rites Set Friday

   

 Edward Wendel, 79, retired farmer and life resident of Liberty Township, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at his home after an extended illness. He had been hospitalized previously.

 

Born February 22, 1885, he was the son of the late Jacob and Philipina Gilker Wendel.

 

He was married 45 years ago to Anna Linn and she survives with three sons. Lisle, St. Marys; Carl, R. 3, Celina; and Wayne, north of Celina; and two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Esta) Bollenbacher, Rockford and Mrs. Alfred (Dorothy) Borger, R. 4, Celina; one sister, Mrs. Emma Baucher, R. 5, Celina; 21 grandchildren, including Wayne Fisher who grew up in the home; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

One daughter, two brothers and a sister are deceased.

 

Mr. Wendel was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Liberty Township,  where rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday.  His pastor, the Rev. Larry K. May, will officiate and burial will take place in the church cemetery.  

 

Friends may call in the W.H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home from noon Thursday until 12:30 p.m. Friday when the body will be removed to the church to lie in state until the services.
