John Shaffer, brother of city resident, dies
The
brother of a Decatur woman died Saturday night at Gibbons hospital in
Celina of a heart condition; John W. Shaffer, 52, of Rockford, had
been a patient there for a week. He was the brother of Mrs. Arlo
(Margaret) McKean of Decatur.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m.
Ohio time (12:30 p.m. Indiana time) Wednesday at the Ketcham-Ripley
funeral home in Rockford.
Other survivors include Shaffer’s
wife, Grayce; his two sons, Harold and Gale, both of Rockford; a
daughter, Mrs. Tom (Ruth) Myer of Rockford; sisters Mrs. Hugh (Opal)
Dull of Celina and Mrs. Robert (Florence) Courtney of Rockford; five
grandchildren; and his parents, also of Rockford.

John W. Shaffer, 52, of Rockford died at 8 p.m. Saturday in
Gibbons Hospital, Celina, where he had been a patient for a week. He
was born April 31,1921, in Mercer County a son of Ralph and
Mary(Zizelman) Shaffer.
He married Grayce Gibson on Jan.7,1940.
She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gale and Harold, both
of Rockford; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Ruth) Myers of Rockford; three
sisters, Mrs. Arlo(Margaret) McKean of Decatur, Mrs. Hugh (Opal) Dull
and Mrs. Robert (Florence) Courtney of Rockford, and five
grandchildren.
Mr. Shaffer was manager of the Berne Equity
Exchange for 25 years and at the time of his death he was employed at
the Rockford American Legion Hall. He was a member of Fraternal Order
of Eagles.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday in Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Denver Noggle
officiating. Eagles memorial services were at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the
funeral home.
