From the NFort Recovery Journal, 18 Nov 1927, Page 1:
Orrin S. Greene, the son of Rudolph and Mary (nee Goodsell) Greene, was born in Oswego county, New York, July 5, 1834, and departed this life November 11, 1927, aged 93 years, 4 months and 6 days. His father died when he was five years of age. In 1854, he was united in marriage to Caroline Wild in Cuyohago [sic] county, Ohio. To this union was born three children, two daughters and one son, namely Frances M., who died at two years of age; Juliette Wortz and Emory C. Greene, with whom he was living. Caroline Greene departed this life July 21, 1896. In October, 1897 he was united in marriage with Jane Trace, who departed this life May 4, 1925. When he was 16 years old he united with the Wesleyan Methodist church at West View in Cuyahoga county, Ohio, and at the age of 18 was licensed to exhort in that church. In 1863 he moved with his family to the farm on which he lived at the time of his death. In the year 1864 he enlisted in Company G, 193rd O.V.I., and was mustered out at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio, in August 1865.
At the time the Noble Christian church was organized Mr. Greene was one of the charter members; this was in 1867. He was licensed to preach soon after that date, and he followed this calling as long as his health would permit. He organized three Christian churches, namely Bethel, Coldwater R. F. D. 1, Mercer county; Wabash City, Mercer county, and Swamp College church, Celina R. F. D. 11. Mr. Greene was a member of Ft. Recovery Grand Army Post, having joined it when it was first organized. He held its members close to his heart with an affection which only old comrades can feel, and when they came to see him in his last affliction he met them with a strong grip and told them he was ready and waiting for the final roll call.
When Mr. Greene first came as a boy of 8 years with his parents they traveled in a wagon from Cuyahoga county. The forest at that time was alive with bears and wolves. Deer wee plentiful as was all other wild game native to this part of the country. He lived to see a great change.
Mr. Greene leaves to mourn their loss one daughter, Juliette Wortz; one son, Emory C. Greene; six grandchildren, Ross H. Ferner, Nettie M. Ferner, Robert Bellis, Cora Bellis, Oren N. Greene and Daisy M. Greene; eleven great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; one stepson, Granville Trace, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
Mr. Greene has always tried to the best of his ability to live a sincere Christian life, and has for a number of years past been wishing to hear his Savior's voice saying, 'It is enough, good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of thy Lord.'
