Janice “Jan” Bauman, 79, of North Webster, Indiana passed away on
Saturday, September 11, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her
loving family.
She was born on September 26, 1941, in Bryant,
Indiana to the late Dale Haffner and the late Vera (Bergman) Haffner.
Jan was united in marriage to Leland Jay Bauman on April 19, 1964, in
Portland, Indiana and he preceded her in death on December 2, 2020.
Jan was Valedictorian of her 1959 graduating class of Bryant High
School and graduated from Ball State University in 1962 earning her
Registered Nurses license. Jan was a member of North Webster United
Methodist Church where she served as an usher and a greeter. She was
the past president of United Methodist Women of Rebeka Circle. In
addition she was a member of the P.E.O Chapter of the E.J. Society in
Syracuse, Indiana where she served as the Secretary. She was also in a
local book club in North Webster.
She was employed at Jay
County Hospital from 1962-1965 and then went on to start the First
Medical Station from 1965-1967 in CTS in Berne. She taught prenatal
classes at Adams Memorial Hospital and was the patient care manager in
the obstetrics unit at Adams Memorial Hospital for several years. In
addition to her employment she was the American Red Cross CPR
Instructor for many years. Jan retired from Adams Memorial Hospital
after 38 plus years of service in 2005.
Jan had a heart for
others, and loved her family deeply. She and Jay will be missed
immensely by their family. Jan enjoyed watching her grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and holding babies! She also enjoyed playing
scrabble, reading, and tending to her flower beds.
Survivors
include her daughter, Becky (Bill) Grimm of Berne, Indiana; son, David
(Kristi) Bauman of Monroe, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Marcia Bauman of
Berne, Indiana; brother, Richard Haffner of Bryant, Indiana; sister,
Norma (Glen) Cash of Pennville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Landon
(Katie) Bauman, Nathan Bauman, Kelsey Bauman, Alise (Nathan) Hess, and
Blake Bauman; five great-grandchildren, Analisse Hess, Matthew Bauman,
Kadin Beaman, Sydney Smith, and Chelsea Smith.
In addition to
her husband Jay, she was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Bauman
on March 15, 2016; brother, Dick Haffner; and two sister-in-laws,
Jackie Haffner and Donna Haffner.
A funeral service will be
held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn
Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana with Pastor
Paul Rogers officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Spring
Hill Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and
5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral
Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to services
on Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be
given to North Webster United Methodist Church.
