Henry A. Amstutz, 82, a native of the Berne area, but a resident of
Celina, O., for the past 35 years, and a pioneer in the hatchery
industry in this region, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Van Wert
county hospital following an extended illness.
He had been
hospitalized for some time, and been returned to his home at 509 E.
Wayne street, Celina, O., and then taken back to the hospital.
In 1930 Amstutz founded the Celina hatchery, and expended it into a
chain of Amstutz Hatcheries.
He was born near Berne on Oct. 3,
1891, the son of John A. and Lydia Neuhauser Amstutz. He was married
Nov. 25, 1915 to Emma Schlatter, who with three sons and a daughter,
survive.
He was a member of the Grace Missionary Church,
Celina, and while at Berne was superintendent of the Sunday School at
West Missionary Church, and served as a Sunday School teacher there
for many years. He was a former member of the Board of directors of
Fort Wayne Bible College.
Surviving are the wife; a daughter,
Mrs. Berniece Kraner, Celina; three sons, Harry and Olen Amstutz of
Celina and Virgil of Berne; 14 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Ida) Beltz,
Hicksville, Ohio; Mrs. Truman (Tillie) Roth, Canton, Ohio and Mrs.
Arthur (Ella) Fox, Berne and three brothers, Ezra (Solie) Amstutz, Sun
City, Arizona; Loren, Orrville, Ohio, and Reuben, Celina, Ohio.
Three brothers, Menno, John and Albert and a sister, Mrs. Aldine
Schindler preceded in death.
The body is at the Dick & Sons
Funeral home in Celina where friends may call. Services will be held
at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Grace Missionary church in Celina, Dr. Timothy
Warner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens at Celina.
Preferred memorials are to Fort Wayne Bible college.
Calling
hours will be after 2 p.m. today at the Dick and Sons Funeral Home and
after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Grace Missionary church at Celina where the
body will lie in state until the 2 p.m. service.
